CBAM 50-tonne threshold checker
Since 2026 the CBAM exemption is based on mass, not value. Enter your imports for the calendar year to see whether you need authorised CBAM declarant status.

You are exempt from authorisation, declaration and certificate surrender for this calendar year, as long as the cumulative total stays at or below 50 tonnes. Customs authorities monitor the threshold.
How the threshold works
- The threshold is 50 tonnes of net mass per importer per calendar year, cumulative across iron and steel, aluminium, cement and fertilisers, from all non-EU countries of origin. It was introduced by the CBAM simplification Regulation (EU) 2025/2083 and replaced the former €150 per-consignment exemption.
- Hydrogen and electricity are not covered by the exemption: any quantity is subject to CBAM.
- If you cross 50 tonnes during the year, CBAM applies to all CBAM goods imported in that year, including the first 50 tonnes. Apply for authorisation before the import that takes you over the threshold.
- Goods originating in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland (and a few territories such as Büsingen, Heligoland, Livigno, Ceuta and Melilla) are outside CBAM.
- Customs authorities monitor the threshold with import data and risk analysis, and can follow up retroactively.
